Elephant Trunk Hill is located on the western bank of Li River Scenery, at the confluence of Li River and the Peach Blossom River (Taohuajiang). It obtained its name because the mountain resembles closely an elephant stretching its nose drinking water on the river bank. It is known as a symbol of Guilin landscape.

Elephant Trunk Hill has the altitude of 200 meters, 108 meters long and 100 meters wide. The mountain area is up to 1.3 hectares, which is composed of pure limestone. The major scenic spots include: Xiangshan Square, HuiJiang Pavilion, Puxian Tower, Elephant-eye Grotto, Shuiyue hole, Shanxing Island and Yunfeng Temple.

Features：

Elephant Trunk Hill has four outstanding features. Firstly, it is the only one mountain which looks extremely like a giant elephant. With no peak, it has lots of cultural landscapes such as stone inscription, Cliffside Images and ancient fort.

Secondly, there is unique scenery in the water. There is a cave between the elephant trunk and its leg. The cave likes a moon falling over the water, thus it has formed the scenery combining moon and water. In the Song dynasty (960-1279), there was poem praising this enthralling view.

Thirdly, this is the perfect place to hide the Sanhua Liquor (a famous type of liquor in Guilin). The abdominal cave of the Elephant Trunk Mountain is the possession of hiding liquor because of its appropriate temperature and the unique geographical location. It provides a unique condition for the wine. Since the Song Dynasty, it as a natural wine cellar for brewing and storing the King of rice wine -Sanhua Liquor of Guilin.

Fourthly, it has a special tower, namely the Puxian Tower. This tower was built in the top of Elephant Trunk Hill in the Ming Dynasty (1638-1644) to worship the Buddha Bodhisattva. Lama-style solid brick with rich Tibetan culture has reflected the legend of “Puxian Bodhisattva Riding an Elephant”. It is a symbol of peace, beauty and happiness.
